The Directorate of Environment is responsible for:

• The ensuring the collection and transport of trash, the separate collection and transport of recyclable materials, as well as the cleanliness of shared public areas and the maintenance of vehicles of the Municipality.

• The upgrade of the local natural, architectural and cultural environment, by taking the appropriate measures and the regulation of the relevant activities, as well as for the maintenance of the green spaces and the energy management of its activities.

• The protection of the environment.

The Director:

• Supervises the effective cleanliness of the city and the process of the implementation and operation of the decisions and regulatory Actions, which concern the Directorate.

• Studies and suggests measures that have to be taken for the improvement of the operation of the services and Departments of her Directorate.

• Takes care of the provision of data to the Mayor and the competent Department of Financial Services, as well as the provision of credits and the reformulation of credits related to the performance of projects and supplies under the responsibility of the Department.

• Studies and suggests the specifications, the necessary quantities and the cost valuation of all kinds of vehicles, materials and services required for the efficient and effective operation of the Directorate, forwarding any relevant request to the Procurement Department.

• Suggests the necessary training and the updates of the operational rules of the shared public spaces’ Cleaning – Recycling service.
